Cookie Policy
Nothing that tracks you runs until you say yes. Analytics and advertising cookies are switched off by default. They are only set if you choose Accept, or enable that category under Manage.
What a cookie is here
A small file a site stores in your browser. Some are needed for the site to work at all; others record what you read so we can measure our audience, or let advertisers see whether an ad led anywhere.
Categories
Strictly necessary — always on
These are not used to identify or track you, so they do not need consent. The only
thing CritVolt stores in this category is your cookie choice itself, in your
browser's local storage under critvolt.consent, so we do not ask
again on every page.
Analytics — off until you allow it
Google Analytics 4, loaded through Google Tag Manager. It tells us how many people read an article and which ones, which is how we decide what to write next. We do not use it to identify individuals.
Advertising — off until you allow it
Google Ads. Lets advertisers measure whether an ad worked and personalise what you are shown. Declining does not remove advertising; it means what you see is not personalised using these cookies.
The cookies themselves
| Name | Set by | Category | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
critvolt.consent | CritVolt | Necessary | Remembers your choice on this bar. Local storage, not sent anywhere. |
_ga | Google Analytics | Analytics | Distinguishes one browser from another so visits are not double-counted. |
_ga_JQ7BB4L4EJ | Google Analytics | Analytics | Keeps session state for this property. |
_gcl_au | Google Ads | Advertising | Attributes a later action back to an ad you clicked. |
Google may set further cookies once advertising is allowed. Their current list is maintained at business.safety.google/adscookies.
Changing your mind
Reopen your cookie choices at any time. Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it, and takes effect immediately — though cookies already set are removed by your browser, not by us. You can clear them for this site in your browser's settings.
Do Not Track and browser controls
Every browser can block or delete cookies, and blocking the ones above will not break anything on this site. If you block them at the browser level, our bar has nothing left to switch on.
